POSITION SUMMARY:

The Dual Language Immersion Program Specialist is responsible for aligning and coordinating the development and implementation of dual immersion instruction in District 49 to include, but not limited to: providing leadership and expertise on dual language education practices, providing professional development and coaching to staff, and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders. They will have a high level of knowledge about research-based instructional strategies, second language acquisition, curriculum and assessment, and experience with modeling, coaching, and providing professional development in the area of dual language education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as an operational and strategic leader responsible for maintaining operational excellence for a dual immersion program.

  • Develop and implement program instructional systems and procedures that foster dual language and multicultural learning across the district schools.

  • Develop grade level expectations for achievement in target languages and English.

  • Collaborate with teachers in the development of curricula and assessments aligned with target language standards.

  • Coordinate the inventory, ordering, and maintenance of instructional materials in target language

  • Assist with recruitment and retention of bilingual and biliterate teachers

  • Lead and facilitate professional learning focused on dual language instruction.

  • Provide instructional coaching and modeling to administrators and teachers to support the development of high quality instructional pedagogy

  • Support compliance with applicable grants, state and federal laws, regulations and Board policies. Maintain knowledge of legal and regulatory changes.

  • Address programming concerns by working with school staff and leadership teams.

  • Collaborate to develop master schedules for program instructors

  • Plan, schedule and coordinate school projects that promote multiculturalism and multilingualism

  • Promote the use of emerging technologies to enhance teacher content knowledge and pedagogy for dual language immersion programs.

  • Analyze student achievement data to inform decision-making.

  • Build relationships with the community/national/international partnerships.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision & Technical Responsibilities:

This position does not supervise other employees.

Budget Responsibility:

The Dual Immersion Program Specialist will work in partnership with the CLDE Coordinator, DODEA grant managers, district leaders and building leaders to develop, and monitor a dual immersion program budget.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position:

Education & Training:

  • Bachelor of Science in Education

  • Teacher license with a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Bilingual Education Specialist endorsement

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in TESOL preferred

  • Relevant training in dual immersion programming

Experience:

  • Demonstrated success in teaching or leading in a dual language immersion program or similar experience.

  • English language skills required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a usual office or school environment. This job may be performed remotely in the event that students are unable to be physically present in school due to school or district decision, external mandates or orders, or other school closure. Remote work is not otherwise considered a reasonable accommodation.

Mental Functions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, compare, analyze, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, and use interpersonal skills. Occasionally required to compile, copy, compute and negotiate.
