JOB GOAL: The Executive Director of Student Services and Family Support, reporting directly to the Associate Superintendent of Leadership and Learning, oversees the management aspects of the district’s supervisory and administrative tasks in monitoring and assisting with programs for student services and family support services including; English as Second Language/Migrant (ESOL), student enrollment, safety, student disciplinary actions, social work and counselor services, guidance services, McKinney Vento and homebound services, and other support services as assigned. Assist parents and school personnel in resolving issues.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Collaborate with district and building administrators for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining student services and programs that impact student achievement.

  • Advance KCKPS key goals outlined in the strategic plan. Advocate and lead the work in social emotional learning, student discipline/restorative justice, counseling, trauma-informed, safety/crisis management, ESOL/Migrant, school attendance, and social work processes and programs. 

  • Seek support and services for areas of concern for student welfare, including programs to provide proactive solutions to bullying, and collaborating with outside agencies to provide needed support both to students in traditional school programs and to those served in any alternative learning programs.  

  • Direct and monitor other general student service programs to include homeless youth, foster care, truancy, student enrollment, non-resident attendance waivers, placement of students transitioning from alternative school/setting or other programs as designated by KCKPS.

  • Perform personnel functions (e.g., recruit, hire, support, evaluate, discipline, terminate) for the job performance of student support personnel to ensure effectiveness within each position. 

  • Develop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure exemplary operations in all areas of student support.

  • Create Parent and Student Handbooks in compliance with state and local regulations and policies.

  • Manage the district wide volunteer program.

  • Plans and organizes methods and procedures for disseminating information on system-wide policies and procedures related to various operational issues.

  • Ensures compliance of assigned student services programs with all pertinent federal and state regulations and requirements related to district operations.

  • Works cooperatively with various stakeholders to support all areas of student support office staff assigned throughout the district.

  • Serves as chairperson and members of committees and project teams as needed.

  • Prepares and submits reports, formative and summative data, plans and surveys concerning student services programs.

  • Requires some evening and weekend work.

  • Performs other related duties as directed by the Associate Superintendent of Leadership and Learning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Specific Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Administration or related field from an accredited college/university. 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a school principal, or building/district educational leader, preferred. 

  • Previous experience in special education, student services, or alternative schools, preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
