Assistant Principal

Northwestern Settlement is a dynamic and innovative leader in creating transformation opportunities for children and families to disrupt generational poverty. All programs nurture, educate and inspire so that families can take personal responsibility for their futures and attain self-sufficiency and reach aspirations. The Assistant Principal will work to support program Directors organizing and implementing school instructional practices that maximize opportunities for scholars to meet high academic and social/emotional goals as set forth by the Northwestern Settlement’s vision. The Assistant Principal will collaborate and build strong trusting relationships with the Principal, other Settlement and School leaders, staff, community leaders, families, partners, and volunteers.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

School Leadership

  • Ensure fulfillment of vision and mission

  • Ensure clear alignment and infusion of Settlement Programming

  • Serve as a champion for Rowe and the Northwestern University Settlement house at all times

  • Serve as the Principal, in the Principal’s absence

  • Co-Manage K-8 school design

  • Co-Lead school staff and faculty recruitment, hiring, and retention K-8

  • Co-manage all school personnel (including Program Team, Operations Team, Instructional Teams, etc.)

  • Lead and manage school projects

  • Participate in budget allocations and fiscal planning

  • Participate in leadership meetings (lead when needed)

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Instructional Leadership

  • Help oversee all instructional planning and implementation

  • Help manage all teams to academic and SEL success

  • Co-Manage Performance Management Cycle K-8

  • Develop and manage school schedule

  • Co-Lead the planning and implementation of Summer Launch

  • Oversee planning and implementation of After-School Academy and Summer Academy

  • Provide professional development when appropriate

  • Support in Tier 1 Discipline, as appropriate

  • Lead MTSS Team K-8

Community Leadership

  • Represent Rowe at board meetings as needed

  • Represent Rowe at external and internal functions as needed

Education/Experience

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in education is required, Master’s degree preferred

  • Belief and alignment with school’s core beliefs and educational philosophy

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of school leadership preferred; Entrepreneurial background preferred

  • Ability to create strong strategic plans; effective executer as well as a proven record of successful strategic outcomes

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take directions as needed; willingness to assume a variety of assignments

  • Ability to work with scholars, their families, partners, and community members in a variety of capacities

  • Ability to consistently and fairly articulate and enforce school rules

  • Strong organizational skills; extremely careful attention to detail and follow-through

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication and ability to build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders

  • Due to the nature of this role, both written and oral fluency is Spanish is highly preferred

Position Type – Full Time

Compensation
