The Verona Area School District (VASD), located in south-central Wisconsin close to the City of Madison, seeks an innovative, experienced Superintendent to lead its rapidly growing district. A highly regarded district, VASD is the 28th largest in Wisconsin and serves a diverse student population with an operating budget of more than $65 million. The district is equity-centered in its efforts to educate more than 5,800 students in PreK through 12th grade.
VASD seeks an energetic and collaborative team leader, excellent communicator and strong advocate for equity and inclusion, which is a centerpiece of the district’s Strategic Plan. The Superintendent is charged with implementing the VASD mission that EVERY student must be successful. With the Strategic Plan as a guide, the Superintendent leads the development of authentic relationships with staff, students, families and community members across seven municipalities in suburban, urban and rural areas.
The Superintendent works with an active Board of Education, consisting of seven elected members, and serves a notably engaged and involved community that has high expectations for its schools. In addition, the Superintendent leads a team of more than 800 outstanding educators and staff who are deeply dedicated to the academic success and well-being of students.
VASD is composed of four neighborhood elementary schools, two K-5 charter schools, a K-8 charter school, two attendance-area middle schools and one high school, as well as four-year-old kindergarten, language-immersion and STEM programming and robust offerings in the arts, athletics and other extracurriculars. VASD has long been at the forefront of developing public charter school options and is currently cultivating a renowned personalized learning approach at all grade levels. The district’s investment in personalized learning includes one-to-one technology from kindergarten through 12th grade. VASD will complete a major construction project in 2020, opening a new state-of-the-art Verona Area High School campus and moving six schools, the result of more than $183 million in referenda.
The official start date for the new Superintendent is July 1, 2021, screening interviews will begin on October 26, 2020.
