REPORTS TO: Martin County School Board

The Superintendent serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Martin County School District and is responsible for providing leadership and accountability for all functions, operations and programs of the school district. The Superintendent reports directly to the School Board and is required to perform all duties, obligations and responsibilities required in this job description as well as those outlined and defined in FL Statutes particularly, but not limited to Chapters 1000-1013.
Master’s degree from an accredited institution. Doctorate preferred.
Must be domiciled/maintain homestead in Martin County and possess a valid Florida Driver’s License within 6 months of employment. (Interim Superintendent exempt from this requirement)
Holds or must obtain a Florida Certificate in Educational Leadership, Administration and Supervision or documented completion of the Florida Superintendents Special Certification Program within one year of employment.
EXPERIENCE: Ten years of educational experience with at least five years in an executive leadership position in business or education.

Establishes and maintains a professional, open, honest and trusting relationship with the School Board, teachers, support staff, school and district leaders, parents, students and the community
Prepares the School Board meeting agenda in collaboration with the Chairman
Keeps the Board Informed of potential problems or unusual events
Coordinates the monitoring of the Student Success Plan and provides updates and recommended short term and long term changes
Serves as the Secretary to the School Board and provides follow up to items brought forward by the Board in a timely manner
Prepares the Annual Budget with input from the School Board
Maintains visibility and is embedded in community through community organizations and by attending school and community events
Coordinates Legislative efforts as directed by the School Board at local, state and national levels
Provides oversight over all school district functions and operations
Prepares or oversees the preparation of all required reports and maintains appropriate reports
Complies with all other statutory requirements of the office which may not be addressed in this position description

Working Conditions: Appropriate to position. Physical Demands: Appropriate to position. Medium Work: Involves exerting up to 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally or up 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently.
Vision: (Which may be corrected) to read small print; view a computer screen for prolonged periods. Hearing: (Which may be corrected) to answer telephones and tolerate exposure to noisy conditions. Speech: To be understood in face-to-face communications; to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone.
Upper Body Mobility: Use hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head. Environmental Conditions: Encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors. Minimum Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records.
