Position Title: School Nurse
Department: Special Programs & Services
Reports To: Special Programs & Services Assistant Director
Salary Range: $35,160.15—$66,270.30
The school nurse, under the direction and supervision of the NWESD Special Programs and Services Assistant Director, develops, implements, manages, and, in some cases, delivers school health services in NWESD’s cooperative programs located in Snohomish, Skagit, and Whatcom Counties. The school nurse’s scope of practice is defined by law and regulation and professional school nursing standards.
Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of NWESD Cooperative School Nurse Services.
Develops the development of a health services plan that prioritizes services; promotes good mental and physical health practices and behaviors that are culturally appropriate; and, responds to student and cooperative site’s needs.
Assesses and provides for the critical needs of students; emergency care or individual health plans for students with life-threatening medical conditions, medically fragile students, students with health concerns, and/or requiring nursing treatments and medication administration.
Delegates appropriate tasks to unlicensed school personnel and provide training and supervision of non-nurse school staff in providing those services.
Provides nursing consultation in regards to the development and/or revision of school health policies and procedures, records, health room procedures, communicable disease control, and student immunization compliance.
Current Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certificate as a school nurse, current Washington RN license, current first aid/CPR and CPR/First Aid Instructor certification or willingness to obtain, Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited college or university, School nurse experience in public or private schools preferred, Washington State Patrol and FBI criminal background clearance required, Current Washington State drivers license and proof of liability insurance required.
