Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the nation’s 11th largest school division, is seeking a proven educational leader to serve as Chief Equity & Academic Officer.
FCPS, located in the Washington, D.C. region, serves a diverse student population of more than 189,010 students in grades pre-K through 12. FCPS students come from all over the world and speak nearly 200 languages. FCPS is the third largest employer in Virginia. The school division has approximately 27,500 full-time employees and an operating budget of $3.1 billion.
A competitive salary and benefit package will be offered. Minimum requirements include a Master’s degree in education. Doctoral degree preferred. Eight years of progressively more responsible experience in leadership and management in education. Successful experience as a principal preferred. Postgraduate educational license in a field appropriate to assignment with endorsement(s) in field of specialization and appropriate supervisory and/or administrative endorsements. Division superintendent license or certification preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures relating to curriculum and instruction for general education, special education, and adult populations and all related student services. Comprehensive knowledge of diversity, cultural proficiency, and equity issues. Knowledge of school improvement and organizational change strategies and initiatives. Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws related to schools and equity. Ability to set, communicate, and assess program priorities and performance standards. Ability to manage, supervise, motivate, lead, and challenge a team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the multiplicity of constituencies served by the Division; the School Board; and federal, state, and county officials. Proficiency in the use of technology and data analysis. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
