SUMMARY:

The Program Director for Blended Learning leads the development and implementation of the district-wide blended learning program and, also, serves as the principal of the APS On-Line High School. As the Program Director for Blended Learning, the leader participates as a member of the Department of Teaching and Learning and reports directly to the Director of Teaching and Learning. In also serving as the Principal of the APS On-Line High School, the leader is responsible for increasing student achievement by implementing an aligned and coherent standards-based instructional system. This school is the first of a system of school-based blended learning sites allowing access to blended-learning experiences to students across the school district. May assist with translation and/or communication using second language skills when possible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties, responsibilities, frequency, and percentages are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. D          20%     Design a strategic vision and plan for a personalized and blended learning model for district-wide implementation including protocols and procedures for rigorous and relevant online and blended models for delivering instruction

D          25%     With an absolute focus on increasing the academic achievement of every student, lead and manage the APS On-Line High School program, coordinating the development and implementation of the APS On-Line High School Unified Improvement Plan in accordance with the district mission, APS Board policies; state and federal statutes; and regulations including Alternative Education Campus (AEC); and the Aurora Education Association Master Agreement

W        10%     Develop and implement a school and district-wide plan for blended and on-line learning, drawing together the Colorado Academic Standards, the standards outlined by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and other relevant sources, to ensure a district-wide blended environment that both ensures equitable access to high quality learning experiences to APS students through the blended and on-line environment, in accordance with both leading thinking in the field and established district policies and procedures.

W        10%     At the school site and in partnership with the Department of Professional Learning, use student and teacher-level data to design embedded and differentiated professional learning systems that build capacity for all members of the school and district.

D          5%       Utilize multiple sources of data to inform and drive decisions that impact student outcomes; plan for differentiated, equitable support and access for students.

W        5%       Perform a wide range of managerial responsibilities including, but not limited to: staffing, scheduling, budget management, technology resource allocation, and facilities management at multiple lab sites.

D          10%     Communicate and collaborate with various learning community stakeholder groups, including families and community members, to respond to diverse community interests and needs.

M         2%       Access, design, and implement engaging, relevant, quality extracurricular and co-curricular activities for students in various settings.

M         3%       Possess and apply a deep knowledge of graduation requirements, college readiness, scholarship opportunities, and post-secondary workforce readiness. Model and promote the frequent and effective use of technology in the development of PWR skills with APS students.

M         8%       Lead collaborative efforts to redesign and implement the district’s Credit Recovery system to the benefit of APS students by increasing instructional rigor, personal relevance, and individual engagement in schools’ and district’s programs Promote and participate in local, national, and global learning communities.

            2%       Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

Master’s degree in Education Administration or Curriculum Leadership preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Over 2 years of successful school leadership experience preferred. Over 3 years of experience in teaching preferred. Experience in online learning and/or educational technology.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT & OTHER:

Advanced oral and written communication, public relations, instruction, curriculum, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, facilitation, management, decision making, computer, and organizational skills. Deep skills in supporting and engaging students and staff with diverse needs and from various backgrounds are critical. The Program Director, Blended Learning & Principal, APS On-line must have proven success in instructional leadership, and the implementation of a successful online curriculum and assessment system. Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers, word processing software and basic office equipment. English language skills required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

Colorado Principal’s License or engagement in approved Principal Alternative Licensure Program required for hire. Linguistically Diverse Educator (LDE) certificate preferred.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Directly supervises all school personnel; delegate, when appropriate, various responsibilities to members of the school’s leadership team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and supporting employees; planning, assigning and directing work; providing regular feedback to employees; appraising performance utilizing appropriate evaluation systems; recognizing employees for contributions to the school community; recommending dismissal for employees when appropriate based on the district’s due process requirements and protocols; and, leading conflict resolution when necessary to foster and maintain a healthy, productive, and positive school climate for all stakeholders, The leader in this position will collaborate with fellow principals and district leaders in the development and implementation of a district-wide online and blended learning plan that expands opportunities for every APS student

BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITY:

Solely responsible for developing, administering, monitoring and coordinating the assigned school’s budget. Develop and administer district account allocations. Develop and monitor grants awarded to the school site.
