Position Purpose

The Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction will be responsible for leading all content directors in the development of all curriculum-related products in the District. This includes online curriculum, interim assessment materials, pacing guides, and parent-friendly versions of our curriculum. This position is responsible for quality control and evaluation of all curriculum related documents. The Executive Director will report to the Chief Academic Officer and will be expected to collaborate with the Chiefs of Elementary and Secondary Schools, Leadership Directors, Assistant Superintendents for Special Populations, Advanced Academics, and Instructional Technology to ensure coherence and continuity of instructional initiatives and professional development across the District.

Essential Functions

  • Direct the design, writing, implementation, and evaluation of all curriculum-related documents for the District.
  • Supervise directors of all District content departments in the design, support, and implementation of quality professional development programs in tested and non­ tested content areas that support the district’s curriculum and that are consistent with national standards for professional development.
  • Ensure a process for the selection of high quality, TEKS-aligned instructional resources.
  • Build capacity of content directors to design and lead the writing of high quality curriculum consistent with FWISD Board Policy governing curriculum.
  • Collaborate with all Leadership, Teaching and Learning, and Technology Administrators to ensure coherence of design and implementation of all instructional initiatives.
  • Design and implement a long-range plans for all content areas.
  • Disseminate current research on best practices in Teaching and Learning and Curriculum Development.
  • Collaborate with the Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Bilingual/ESL, and Advanced Academics staffs to coordinate and implement instructional programs that support the special needs of all student populations.
  • Analyze student performance data and plan activities and strategies to meet identified student needs.
  • Research and analyze current programs and practices, keeping district staff well informed and making responsible recommendations to Associate Superintendent of Academics and Accountability.
  • Assists in the development and management of local and federal budgets to support and maintain quality district programs.
  • Provides regular updates of programs activities and services to appropriate audiences.
  • Supervises and evaluates Directors of tested and elective curriculum with the exception of Visual and Performing Arts.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, in a content area preferred.
  • Master's degree in a content area or an education-related area.
  • Eligible for a valid Texas administrative certification. Active progress toward attainment of certification within six months is a condition of continued employment.
  • A minimum of five years successful teaching experience.
  • A minimum of three years of campus, district level administrative or supervisory experience.
  • Extensive and demonstrated knowledge and experience in the field of curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research-based practices in the teaching, learning, and assessment of curriculum.
  • Superior communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Experience in developing and presenting professional development programs. Experience in technology applications.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers, administrators, and others.
