Dr. Marvin Ventura,

Isaac School District No. 5
ALAS SLA Alumni, Cohort I
Phoenix, AZ

Career Highlights & Education: B.S. in Economics from San Diego State University, M.S. in Educational Administration from National University, Ed.D. in Educational Administration, Supervision and Policy Studies from Arizona State University.

I currently serve as the Superintendent of the Isaac School District No. 5 located in Phoenix, Arizona. Having served as Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning from 2009 to 2012, I was promoted to the role of School Superintendent. I am most proud of our school improvement initiatives such as our STEAM programs, 1:1 technology integration in our middle schools, providing quality pre-school programming and practicing student-centered family engagement. Before joining the Isaac School District, I was the principal of Keller Elementary School in Mesa, AZ where we developed a district first, Spanish/English Dual Language program.

What I like best about my jobI have the privilege of working with talented, dedicated leaders that go to great lengths to provide quality-learning experiences for our students and their families.

The best advice I’ve ever received is:  Surround yourself with talented and dedicated people. Build a strong team that will work collaboratively to accomplish a shared vision and mission.

Advice you would give a new superintendent or school system leader: Take the time to learn about the organization and build relationships. “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” John C. Maxwell

If I ever snuck out of work early, I could probably be found: You would find me spending time with my wife and three daughters. Whether we are having dinner together or driving to and from an after-school activity, they are a joy to be around. Their love, energy and laughter recharge my battery.

People would be surprised to know that:  I enjoy playing fútbol!

One thing I wish more people knew about ALAS is:  That the members are truly amazing and inspiring people that are passionate about education and are committed to making a difference in the lives of Latino youth and their families.
