The Governing Board of the Calistoga Joint Unified School District is seeking as its next superintendent an experienced, visionary educational leader with superior interpersonal and communication skills who will demonstrate an open, collaborative, inclusive management style. The current superintendent is retiring after eight years of distinguished service.

The successful candidate will be someone experienced in elementary, middle and/or high school education and operations and will lead the district to the next level of achievement, while embracing and supporting all that has been done. The new superintendent will be highly visible and active in the schools as well as visible and involved in the community, and will have the desire and ability to foster strong, cooperative relationships with all stakeholders.  The person selected for this position will be someone of the highest integrity who will continue to build on a culture of trust, respect, and success.


The District has an excellent program supporting all students. The district of approximately 810 students operates one transitional kindergarten through 6th grade school, one 7th through 8th grade junior high school, one comprehensive high school, and an alternative high school. Calistoga Elementary School is located on its own site while Calistoga Junior High School, Calistoga High School and Palisades High School share a site.  The student population is 82% Hispanic, 14% Caucasian, and a few small percentages of other ethnicities.  There are fifty-seven certificated employees and fifty classified employees.

The District is Community Funded (Basic Aid) with an annual budget of more than $14 million.

The base salary will be in the range of $200,000 plus a benefits package. The final salary for the successful candidate will be negotiated and determined based upon proven experience, qualifications and meeting Board criteria.
