Assistant Principal Positions
The Northshore School District, the tenth-largest in the state, contains approximately 125,000 people, enrolls approximately 22,000 students in grades K-12 and encompasses 60 square miles on the north end of Lake Washington. Building on a strong base of public education founded in the community in 1878, Northshore offers comprehensive and rigorous educational opportunities to all learners, including challenge, pre AP/IB and AP courses, an International Baccalaureate diploma, multiple alternative education settings; a nationally recognized music and fine arts program; diversified career and technical education offerings; an outdoor education program; and strong special and compensatory education programs. The district employs 2,400 people, of which approximately 1,300 are certificated. The District provides a spectrum of induction support to new teachers, including central and building level mentorship, and is committed to the on-going professional development of staff through course offerings and weekly release for teacher collaboration and planning. The district lies within close proximity of five universities and six community colleges for continuing education. The Northshore School Board seeks staff and community input for its planning; citizens are involved through a variety of special committees and task forces, and web surveys. The district has strong community support and parental involvement and benefits from continuous voter support of school levies.
SCOPE OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position serves under the general direction of the building principal, assisting in the development and evaluation of the instructional program. Responsibilities include providing leadership aligned and committed to the District’s 5-year Strategic Plan for the continual improvement of educational programs for all students; a commitment to equity and building a diverse school community; evaluating assigned staff; enforcing necessary school rules and regulations; supervising and disciplining students; planning, scheduling, and staffing assignments; evaluating and directing student activities programs; and other duties as directed. The Assistant Principal:
- Communicates with parents, staff, and community concerning the school programs, system rules, and procedures, including student management issues and discipline.
- Nurtures a positive school environment that celebrates, respects, and values diversity, where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
- Provides oversight for the required state assessments.
- Designs and implements structures for effective and efficient operations including school safety, classroom and school-wide behavior management, and other issues to improve student learning opportunities.
- Facilitates problem solving when conflicts arise between parents and school staff.
- Supervises events and oversees student activities and/or athletic programs.
- Directs, supervises, and evaluates assigned personnel.
- Assists in implementing curriculum, program, and professional development.
- Assists in the analysis of research and assessment data and the application of state standards to improve student achievement.
- Works collaboratively with principal and staff to implement Strategic Plan goals.
- Attends meetings and serves as a facilitator and/or advisor.
- Supervises the operation and care of the building, grounds, and other school property.
- Maintains accurate school records and reports as required.
- Prepares a variety of reports and correspondence.
Salary: $111,486.00 – $117,130.00 – Elementary Assistant Principal
$120,051.00 - $126,128.00 – Middle School Assistant Principal
$125,514.00 - $131,868.00 – High School Assistant Principal
Additional stipend for PhD/EdD degree
Work Year: Full time, 12 month position. 220 work days, 25 vacation days, 13 paid holidays, and 2 personal days
- Master’s degree and valid Washington State principal and teacher certificates.
- A minimum of three years transferable experience as a successful classroom teacher.
