What are some of your career highlights?
Building positive culture as a principal that benefited all students and created an atmosphere of success for the school.
As an Area Superintendent, building great relationships with community and business partners that have provided support to create innovation programs, such as STEM, Broadcasting, Health and performing Arts. Also, a community school concept that provides free after care and summer program for students and assistance to families in my highest Hispanic population.
What are you most proud of professionally?
At this moment, coaching and assisting principals to build positive cultures and capacity in the area schools that translates to student success. All four of my High Schools this past year increased their graduation rates. Seeing students crossing the stage in graduation and knowing that you have been part of that is an amazing feeling.
What is one of the biggest challenges facing educators today?
Trust from lawmakers for public education. Creates an atmosphere of doubt for the communities that are impacted the most when funding is less and the accountability and responsibilities increase more every year.
Why is a program like SLA important for Latino educators?
It is important for us to have the learning experience that will motivate us to continue to grow as leaders that make change in lives of students.
