Message from the President

Ana V. Ortiz

Superintendent, Oxford Public Schools
Oxford, Connecticut
Dear ALAS Network:
It is a great honor to be selected by my ALAS Board of Directors peers as the ALAS Board President. I am so  humbled and excited to be your President for the next two years.

The ALAS 2018 Education Summit experience was very invigorating and has touched our core when we heard everyone’s story on how they have achieved their dreams and some of the struggles they’ve endured. I would like to take this opportunity to share my experience with you as each individual has a story of what makes them who they are. I am a proud retired military person who served my country for 22 years as an Air National Guardsman with the Air Force.

For more than 35 years, I have dedicated most of my professional career as an educator in different capacities in the State of Connecticut and Puerto Rico.  I have worked primarily in districts with a very diverse student population. I am proud of the way I am able to bring people together (team approach) to achieve our goals. Everyone has a voice!

As President, I want to continue working on what has been started by my predecessors and to strengthen what we need to continue to move the organization forward. As stated by Jose, Past President, we are working on the strategic plan that is focused on: a priority around financial stability and goals that will allow us to increase membership from across the nation, redefine organizational leadership and structure, increase national recognition and increase the Latinx administrator impact.
